The jobs themselves sit on school employment law, the SEND Code of Practice, and in some cases designated SENCO qualifications. We run assessed SEND practice for people already in a school. No. Teaching assistant, SENCO, specialist teacher and private tutor are different roles with different entry routes. The SEND Code of Practice describes the system schools work in; it does not sell a marketplace diploma. A course that implies one certificate covers all of those jobs is flattening a statutory framework into a product name.
In England, the SENCO role in maintained schools is a designated leadership job with a specified national award pathway for SENCOs. That is not optional CPD. Teaching assistant posts are employment decisions by schools, often with level 2 or 3 supporting qualifications.
Private “autism practitioner” titles are largely unprotected. Diagnosis of autism is clinical. Awareness training can still be useful. It does not create a diagnostic right.

Anyone whose job specification names QTS, the national SENCO award, or a clinical register. Anyone planning to diagnose. Anyone who needed a teaching career and thought the diploma replaced teacher training. Awareness courses remain useful for parents and support staff when they stay in that lane.
Skip also if the marketing uses “practitioner” to sound like a protected role. Ask the school or clinic you want to work in what they actually shortlist on, then buy that.
