The title is unprotected, which is why corporate buyers invented their own filters: assessed practice hours, a named competency framework, and increasingly an ICF or EMCC pathway. This topic is for people choosing training, not collecting PDFs. The verdict upfront: if nobody watches you coach, you are buying information, not becoming a coach.

Observed practice, a published competency framework, ethics and contracting, and a clear line between coaching and therapy. Hours on slides do not substitute for hours being recorded and marked. If the provider cannot say who assesses you and against what, treat the certificate as a receipt for attendance.

Choose a longer ICF-accredited diploma if you need the shortest documented path onto that register, including mentor coaching and a performance evaluation. Choose a shorter assessed cohort if you need marked practice now, at a lower fee, and you are willing to complete ICF hours separately. They are different products. Pretending otherwise is how this market confuses buyers.
The Coaching Academy comparison states their advantage plainly: they advertise ICF Level 1 and Association for Coaching pathways we do not yet hold. If that is the buying criterion, they are ahead.

Anyone buying a certificate to feel ready without ever coaching a real person. Personal development is a legitimate use of a cheap course; it is not practitioner training.
