Menopause coaching training in the UK

Menopause coaching is an unregulated title in the UK. Anyone may use it. That is why a certificate alone tells a client almost nothing, and why the useful questions are who taught you, whether your case work was marked, and whether you were assessed on referral. This topic sits under wellness careers. The verdict upfront: a menopause coach who cannot name red flags that need a GP is not ready to take paying clients, regardless of the logo on the PDF.

What should menopause coaching training actually cover?

Lived-experience support, workplace adjustments, sleep and stress, and a hard boundary around medical advice. It should teach you to recognise presentations that need a GP or specialist, including postmenopausal bleeding, and to say so out loud. Training that never mentions referral is teaching you to practise as if you were a clinician without the licence.

Useful programmes also cover how to talk about HRT without prescribing it, how to work with clients who are already under a menopause clinic, and how to keep notes a future insurer could read. See can a menopause coach advise on HRT.

Our Menopause Wellness Coaching programme is the live assessed route we offer. A self-paced overview can still be a cheap way to decide whether the work interests you — it is not a substitute for marked case work.

Do you need a medical background to train as a menopause coach?

No. Most coaches do not hold a medical qualification, and coaching is not a clinical role. You do need training that makes the clinical boundary explicit and assesses whether you hold it. A nursing or GP background helps referral judgement. It is not a licence to skip coaching skill or to treat menopause as a protocol you run yourself.

If you are a clinician adding coaching, the risk runs the other way: slipping into treatment during a coaching hour and confusing the client about which hat you are wearing. Contract the scope in writing.

The menopause coach career guide sets out what buyers actually check. For the legal picture on titles, see do you need a qualification to be a menopause coach.

Who should skip a short menopause coaching certificate?

Anyone who wanted to advise on HRT, interpret blood tests, or treat diagnosed pathology. Anyone whose employer or insurer will ask for a clinical register you will not join. Anyone unwilling to have case work marked by a named clinician. A weekend certificate can still be useful orientation. It is the wrong buy if you plan to charge for practice.

Skip also if the marketing uses “specialist” to mean “watched some videos”. Ask who marks the work and what happens when a client describes bleeding after menopause — if the answer is a coaching plan, walk away.

Common questions

Is menopause coaching regulated in the UK?

No. The title is unprotected. Competence is what you can show: assessed case work, a referral framework, and insurance that matches what you actually do.

Does The Study Guild run a menopause programme?

Yes. Menopause Wellness Coaching is a live assessed cohort taught with a clinician-led referral framework. It does not make you a doctor or a prescriber.
