# Dietetics preparation in the UK

How to prepare for an HCPC dietetics degree in the UK, why a short diploma cannot award the title, and what a preparation cohort is actually for.

## What is dietetics preparation actually for?

Career changers targeting an HCPC-approved dietetics degree, and support workers who keep being asked to impersonate a dietitian. It teaches registers, referral and the criminal offence of using the title without registration. It cannot put you on the HCPC register. A course that claimed otherwise would be selling a protected title.

## Can a preparation course replace an HCPC-approved dietetics degree?

No. Registration as a dietitian requires an approved degree. Prior learning on a short cohort is orientation. It is not credit the university is obliged to honour. Providers who imply a stepping stone the register will accept are selling hope. Check the university, not the diploma brochure.

## Who should skip dietetics preparation?

Anyone who needed the degree this year and already knows the HCPC list. Anyone planning to use the title after twelve weeks. Anyone whose person spec names a registered dietitian. Anyone who actually wanted coaching-scope nutrition and would be better on the coaching programme. Preparation is the map. It is not the job.


Skip also if you wanted to treat diabetes, renal diets or eating disorders as a coach. Those

## Common questions

**Does The Study Guild train dietitians?**
