## Why do generic AI courses fail accountants?

Because they optimise for speed and novelty, which are the wrong metrics when a figure will be filed or sent to a client. They rarely mention AML, privilege-adjacent working papers, or who is responsible when the model invents a balance. Profession-specific training starts from those constraints and only then teaches the tool.

## Who should skip a short AI course for accountants?

Anyone whose firm still has no written rule on client data in third-party tools. Anyone who wanted a coding bootcamp. Anyone unwilling to have their workflow marked against a professional standard rather than against a demo. A lunchtime webinar can still be useful; it is not assessed competence.


Skip also if the syllabus never names a UK professional body. International “AI for business”
content will not tell you what your institute expects you to record.


## Common questions

**Can ChatGPT see my client files if I paste them in?**

Treat anything you paste into a consumer tool as having left your control unless your firm has a contractual, closed deployment that says otherwise. That is a firm policy question, not a prompt question.
