MHFA England is the only organisation in England able to license MHFA instructor training. A generic wellness diploma cannot confer that status. ## Short answer No. MHFA England states that it is the only organisation in England able to provide MHFA instructor training licensed by Mental Health First Aid International. A marketplace diploma that borrows the name is passing off, not a cheaper version of the same thing. First-contact protocol design is a different, still-useful product. It does not authorise you to teach MHFA. ## Who can train MHFA instructors in England? MHFA England. Their instructor programme is licensed by Mental Health First Aid International and, they state, accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health. Applications, eligibility and price are published by them. A Guild cohort, or any generic wellness diploma, cannot be that programme however similar the brochure sounds. MHFA England also publishes eligibility focused on workplace or not-for-profit delivery. That is their rule, not ours. If instructor membership is the goal, apply to them. Do not buy a substitute and hope procurement will not notice. No. MHFA is a specific licensed curriculum. First-contact protocol design is listening, signposting and a protocol mapped to job-design duties. You may still buy MHFA from MHFA England as a separate product. Completing a generic course does not authorise you to teach theirs. No. It is a first-contact and signposting skill. It does not qualify you to treat mental illness. Workplace first-contact training does not either. Counselling is a different career with placement hours. Occupational health is a different profession again. Mixing those four in an HR folder is how people get hurt. HSE duties on work-related stress still apply. A first-contact protocol that ignores workload is incomplete. Anyone planning to treat colleagues. Anyone who wanted to become a counsellor on the company's time. Anyone buying a badge to put on a slide deck. First-contact protocol design is the right buy for signposting. It is the wrong buy for a licensed brand. Skip also if you only needed a lunchtime briefing for leadership. A practitioner programme is the wrong instrument for a handful of hours. If it asked for a protocol your organisation can defend, assessed first-contact design is the honest Guild product. If it asked for job-design wellbeing, that is the sister programme. Do not buy a diploma that implies all three. Those are different checks. Use the credential checker if you still cannot name whether this is a legal, employer, client or CPD purchase. For MHFA instructors, the employer product is MHFA England. We will tell you when we are the wrong provider. Mental Health First Aid is a licensed curriculum. MHFA England publishes who may train instructors, who may apply, and what the programme costs. A generic wellness diploma that borrows the name is passing off. First-contact skill at work is still real: listen, signpost, stop, and keep a protocol the organisation can defend. It is not therapy. It is not occupational health. It is not MHFA instructor membership. HSE duties on work-related stress still apply whether or not anyone in the building has sat MHFA. A first-contact protocol that ignores job design is a sticking plaster. If the spec named MHFA England, buy MHFA England. If it asked for a protocol HR can stand behind, assessed first-contact design is the honest Guild product. If it asked for a wellbeing offer mapped to the management standards, that is the sister programme. Do not buy a diploma that implies all three. Procurement can tell. First-contact remains worth training even when MHFA is also on the plan. Buy both as themselves. Do not let a generic diploma collapse them into one logo. That collapse is the product. ## Common questions **Can I call myself an MHFA instructor after a Guild course?** No. Only MHFA England licenses that role in England. **Why does The Study Guild not teach MHFA?** Because we are not licensed to.
